About Ordengg

Ordengg is a guild of newcomers that has garnered attention for its impressive performance in various projects, particularly in the realm of on-chain games. Led by Yanik, a 32-year-old with diverse experiences ranging from python-dev and security operations to cryptocurrency endeavors, ordengg was established in March 2021 during a period of active experimentation with art and the NFT standard. The guild's name is inspired by "Harry Potter & Order of the Phoenix," where a small group of enthusiasts opposes a superior force (changed to "orden" in their native language) while maintaining a commitment to good sportsmanship ("gg" or "good game"). ordengg's primary mission is the development of its own on-chain game, but they also actively engage in playing and accumulating knowledge from other games. Despite being a small guild, ordengg focuses on rapid expansion and diplomatic collaborations with like-minded guilds. Their notable achievements include competitive participation in the Dark Forest game, where they consistently demonstrate their strategic prowess and esports-like dynamics.

Blockchain Gaming and FOCGs (Fully Onchain Games)

AW Research: Besides the excitement of defeating others and being among the top players/guilds in various on-chain games, what other aspects of gaming bring you enjoyment?

dudendy: What truly brings me joy, aside from playing games, is the opportunity to be a part of blockchain gaming history. I am deeply fascinated by the challenges that come with game development and the continuous emergence of new technologies, tools, and frameworks within this ever-evolving space.

AW Research: Before getting involved in FOCGs, did you play web2 games? What aspects of FOCGs attract you the most compared to web2 games?

dudendy: Yes, I've always been an active gamer. Prior to Fully Onchain Games (FOCGs), I extensively played PC games such as Lineage 2, Warcraft 3, Diablo 2, Civilization 5, and League of Legends, in addition to board games. What particularly attracts me to FOCGs, as opposed to these web2 games, is the level of transparency they offer.

AW Research: What are your thoughts on AGI, and how do you believe it will impact the FOCG industry and the real world?

dudendy: My thoughts on Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) are a blend of enthusiasm and caution. However, overall, I believe that AGI will have a predominantly positive impact on both the Fully Onchain Games (FOCG) industry and the real world. We can anticipate more dynamic and distinctive gaming experiences in the future, and I'm eagerly looking forward to trying them or perhaps even contributing to their creation. 👀.

Evolution of the Gaming Industry

AW Research: Yanik mentioned on his twitter that nowadays FOCG is like the gaming renaissance of the 1990s, and we do find some commonality in graphic design, though this is just a surface-level understanding. What specifically makes Yanik think this way? What are Duddendy's thoughts on the matter?

dudendy: I completely agree with this statement. From my perspective, it's not just limited to graphic design; we should anticipate a significant leap in the industry, accompanied by a plethora of new tools and game engines. This is likely to generate a wave of new projects and heightened interest among gamers.

AW Research: Can you provide a vivid example of one of your most memorable war experience? (Round 3 and Round 5 of the latest Dark Forest version.)

dudendy: Round 3, known as the "Race to the Center," was an incredibly intense period of gameplay where we strategically fortified ourselves at the heart of the universe. We defended against all other guilds and players, and this experience will be etched in the history of our guild. You can read more about it here: Link to Round 3 Recap

In Round 5, titled "Junk Wars," the presence of dfdao's "Dead Star" made the round truly unforgettable. Although we initially had a diplomatic draw between our guilds, later that year, we decided to return the rewarded planet to dfdao as a gesture of recognition for their well-deserved victory. More details can be found here: Link to Round 5 Recap

Importance of Teamwork

AW Research: When fighting alongside your guild mates, what holds the greatest significance for you?

Teamwork and coordination are the key elements that matter the most to me. I highly value the process of discussing and developing strategies as a team. In my view, having a well-planned strategy is essential for success in the majority of games. It's not solely about individual skills but also about how effectively we collaborate as a team to accomplish our objectives.

Programming vs. Strategy in FOCGs

AW Research: It seems that Dark Forest holds a special position among most FOCG players. It's not merely individuals participating; it gives the sense of orchestrating a symphony. However, getting deeply involved also requires some programming experience since you have to deploy your infrastructure to run plugins. In this respect, which is more important between strategy and computer programming tactics when playing it?

dudendy: For us, Dark Forest is something special, something that no other FOCG could achieve yet. For sure knowing programming and how to use it in FOCG most likely provides significant advantages over casual players but I think it’s not necessary if you are part of a guild and doing your specific job. There always will be demand for both programmers and casual players in FOCG. Also, I think with time this line will fade and most players will have access to automation (a good example is the plugins system in Dark Forest) and skill combined with strategy will be the main key to be successful.

Unique FOCG Community

AW Research: Both of you are active on Discord, and I think most players are aware that the energy and vibe in the FOCG community are unlike anything seen in other web3 communities, such as those in gamefi and NFTs. What makes it so fascinating?

dudendy: The energy and vibe in the FOCG community are truly unique, and I believe it's largely due to the genuine, engaging, and sometimes intense gaming experiences we share. Unlike other web3 communities, FOCG provides a real gameplay with competitions, dramas, and tournaments and much more. These elements create a lively and heated atmosphere, keeping the community dynamic and passionately involved.

Challenges and Limitations

AW Research: The upcoming questions pertain to the limitations you have encountered. You may refuse to answer if you don't want to discuss them. In a technical aspect, what is the most challenging FOCG game you've ever played? Were there specific things you wanted to implement but couldn't due to limitations? Moreover, did these limitations give rise to innovative solutions or ignite creativity in your approach?

dudendy: Making the transition from web development to the web3 and FOCG landscapes was a time-consuming and challenging yet thrilling endeavor for our team members. We encountered numerous issues and limitations across various games, primarily stemming from a lack of knowledge, especially during the initial stages. One of the key tools that remained unimplemented for a while was a headless client for Dark Forest.

Blockchain Technology in Gaming

AW Research: When talking about on-chain gaming, people often question the need for blockchain technology since the storage costs associated with playing these games are not eliminable. While Gink's response tends to lean towards the philosophical side, I'm curious to hear how you guys would address this question. Do you believe blockchain is essential for what we're building here?

dudendy: Absolutely, I believe blockchain is essential for what we're building in the realm of on-chain gaming. I understand the concerns but if we take a look for the past 2 years and how industry is rapidly evolving, becoming faster, more cost-effective, and more efficient. Therefore, to be concise, I think blockchain in gaming has huge potential which superior current downsides.

Future Funding Considerations

AW Research: Ordengg is currently running with your funds, so there are no underlying liabilities for you guys to take. Will you accept funding from others in the future?

dudendy: We are very cautious about liabilities and funding so we prefer to exist on our own right now a have full freedom. But I could imagine if we grow to the size of current esports teams we most likely will consider some funding or sponsorship.

So let's build gaming of the future together. FOCG and orden FTW!
