Leading the charge at press time is Len Sassaman, the late cryptographer and decentralization advocate, who leads with a strong 48% chance. Following him is Hal Finney, an early contributor in crypto and the first recipient of a Bitcoin transaction, with a 13% chance of being named the Bitcoin founder.

In addition to Sassaman and Finney are other notable names including Dorian Nakamoto, whose name closely resembles Satoshi’s pseudonym, Nick Szabo, Adam Back, Elon Musk, and others, though their odds sits below 10%. Additionally, despite a March court ruling dismissing computer scientist Craig Wright ‘s self-styled claim as Satoshi, he also made it on to the list, albeit, with a slim 1%.

Another 23% of the predictions suggest that an unnamed entity or individual could be revealed, and the statistics continue to shift as the industry awaits the promoted project.

What is the HBO Film Promising to Expose Satoshi?

On October 3, 2024, investigative filmmaker Cullen Hoback shared snippets of an upcoming documentary, hinting that the film holds fresh insights into Nakamoto’s identity.

Titled “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery,” the snippet, while not explicitly confirming to reveal the individual or entity behind the pseudonym, promotes the documentary as unraveling the internet’s biggest mystery.

However, previous investigations have also claimed to hold the key to Satoshi’s identity, leading to skepticism about whether this documentary will clarify the mystery, or simply complicate it further.
