Samsung has recently decided to invest in Startale Labs, aligning itself with Sony to push forward the development of Web3 technologies.

This move signals Samsung's commitment to a future where the internet is more decentralised, secure, and user-driven.

Both tech giants believe that with the right infrastructure, Web3 could become the new standard, replacing today’s centralised internet models and bringing blockchain and token-based economies to the forefront.

According to John Yim, a key figure at Samsung’s venture capital division, Samsung Next, the company is betting on Startale Labs due to the current internet's limitations, such as a lack of transparency, security gaps, and high barriers for newcomers.

Yim sees these as challenges that a well-built Web3 ecosystem could solve, making digital spaces fairer and safer for all.

He believes that Startale Labs has the expertise and reputation to help lead this shift, especially with Japan’s supportive stance on technological innovation and blockchain development.

Japan's role in fostering Web3 innovation is pivotal.

With a tech-savvy population and favorable policies, it’s no surprise that Startale Labs has found success there.

Yim also pointed to the collaboration between Startale Labs and Sony on the Soneium blockchain as a major reason for the investment.

The Soneium blockchain, built on Ethereum's (CRYPTO:ETH) Layer 2 solution via Optimism’s (CRYPTO:OP) OP Stack, aims to be a flexible and easy-to-use platform that can cater to a wide range of applications globally.

Sony envisions Soneium as more than just a blockchain—it’s designed to be a tool for everyone.

Startale Labs' founder, Sota Watanabe, echoed this by saying, “Everyone is a creator, no matter where you are or what you do.”

This perspective aligns with their goal of making blockchain accessible to all, not just developers.

Earlier this year, Startale Labs secured $3.5 million in a Series A funding round with support from Samsung Next, Signum Capital, and Sony Network.

This came after a $3.5 million seed round exclusively backed by Sony in 2023, bringing total funding to $7 million.

For both Samsung and Sony, this partnership with Startale Labs is about more than just funding; it’s about shaping the next phase of the internet and bringing Web3 to everyday users.
