Opensea received a notice from the SEC, accusing the NFTs it traded of being unregistered securities
About a year ago, Gary Gensler, the Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), gave a vague response to Congressman Ritchie Torres, asking whether buying tokenized Pokémon cards on a digital exchange via blockchain would be considered a securities transaction. On August 28th, Opensea received a Wells notice from the SEC, accusing the NFTs traded on the market of being unregistered securities.
