  • Craig Wright’s courtroom woes appear far from over.
  • The scientist’s “extensive and repeated” lies while on oath are catching up with him.
  • A London High Court judge has referred his case to prosecutors.

Craig Wright , the Australian computer scientist who has maintained long-standing claims of being the Bitcoin creator, risks being arrested or extradited to the UK for prosecution on “wholescale” perjury and forgery charges.

The accusations stem from a May 20 ruling in the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) vs Craig Wright case, which concluded that the scientist lied “extensively and repeatedly” regarding his claim to be Satoshi Nakamoto.

The judge also ruled that all the evidence presented by Wright to support his false claim was forged, expressing zero doubts about his dishonesty throughout the case.

Judge Refers Wright to British Prosecutors

According to a Reuters report on July 16, Judge James Mellor of the London High Court has referred Wright’s case to Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to consider whether to charge him with perjury for lying on oath during the trial.

“I have no doubt that I should refer the relevant papers in this case to the CPS for consideration of whether a prosecution should be commenced against Dr Wright for his wholescale perjury and forgery of documents and/or whether a warrant for his arrest should be issued and/or whether his extradition should be sought from wherever he now is,” the report quoted the judge’s ruling.

While Wright has yet to make an official comment on the recent development, the embattled scientist recently said on X that he would appeal COPA’s win.

I fully intend to appeal the decision of the court on the matter of the identity issue. I would like to acknowledge and thank all my supporters for their unwavering encouragement and support. In the meantime, I shall continue to work closely with the Teranode team to achieve…

Notably, Wright’s X account hasn’t shared any post since the last one on May 20, shortly after his devastating loss in court. His whereabouts remain unknown, with court documents noting that he “appears to have left the UK” and “was last established to be in the time zone of UTC +7.”
