CertiK: 408 on-chain incidents occurred in the first half of 2024, with losses exceeding $1.19 billion

Odaily News CertiK has released its latest security report, with highlights including: - There were 184 on-chain security incidents in Q2 2024, resulting in a total loss of $688,102,941. - The value of losses increased by 37% compared to Q1 2024, but the number of incidents decreased by 18% quarter-on-quarter. - Phishing was the most expensive attack vector in Q2 2024, causing $433,688,871 in losses across 67 incidents, accounting for the majority of total financial losses. - There were 16 major incidents involving private key compromise, resulting in a total loss of $170,064,635. - Ethereum suffered the most security incidents, with 83 hacks, scams, and exploits resulting in a total loss of $170,636,798. - A total of $99,328,507 in funds were returned in 7 separate incidents, resulting in an adjusted total loss of $588,774,434 for the quarter. The average loss per incident was $3,739,689, and the median loss per incident was $204,614. -There were 408 on-chain security incidents in the first half of 2024, resulting in a total loss of $1,190,398,361. -Phishing incidents resulted in 150 incidents with a total loss of $497,735,904. The second largest group was private key compromise incidents, with 42 incidents resulting in a total loss of $408,949,115, highlighting the ongoing vulnerabilities in key management. -Ethereum was the most affected chain, with 235 incidents and losses of $397,405,773. -In the first half of 2024, a total of $177,791,389 was returned in 18 incidents, resulting in an adjusted total loss of $1,012,606,971 in the first half of 2024.
