US Senate proposes using blockchain for national security testing

The US Senate Armed Services Committee has instructed Defense Secretary and retired General Lloyd Austin to explore the potential applications of Blockchain technology in supply chain management and other national security areas within the US Department of Defense. The committee released the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) report on July 9, which includes specific authorizations for the Army, Navy, Air Force, and overall defense projects.The committee stated, "Blockchain technology has the potential to enhance the cryptographic integrity of defense supply chains, improve data integrity, and reduce the risk of manipulation or destruction of certain types of data by near-peer competitors."The Senate committee also hopes that the Department of Defense (DOD) will explore use cases for blockchain to achieve national security objectives and create secure, transparent, accountable, and auditable data related to the supply chain.
