By:Felix Pinkston

The latest edition of The Rollup Coaster, a bi-weekly newsletter authored by Taiko’s Community Advocate Jünger, provides an in-depth look at the recent advancements in the Ethereum (ETH) ecosystem. This issue, released on July 1, 2024, covers a range of topics including rollups , zero-knowledge proofs, and other significant developments in the blockchain space, according to taiko.mirror.xyz .

Highlights

Vitalik Buterin recently discussed methods to enhance Ethereum's confirmation times by exploring techniques such as single-slot finality and preconfirmations. He elaborated on the current slot-and-epoch architecture and proposed modifications to speed up confirmations.

Jon Charbonneau shared an article titled "We're All Building the Same Thing," which delves into system design and performance optimization. The article examines how these designs impact transaction validity, consensus mechanisms, and cross-chain composability, highlighting the convergence of different blockchain systems.

In a significant milestone for the diversity of clients, the Ethereum execution client Reth 1.0 has been released after two years of development.

ZK and Rollup Research

A new paper titled "Asynchronous Consensus without Trusted Setup or Public-Key Cryptography" introduces an efficient, post-quantum secure asynchronous Byzantine consensus protocol. This protocol operates without public-key cryptography, making it practical for geo-distributed systems.

Ingonyama shared a paper about a high-level polynomial framework and API for efficient Zero Knowledge Proofs in the ICICLE v2 library, which abstracts hardware optimization for ease of use.

Donnoh from L2Beat published an article on building the safest optimium, and Aligned provided a brief summary of the Sumcheck Protocol.

RISC Zero introduced zkVM 1.0, and Arbitrum unveiled Timeboost, a new transaction ordering policy for Arbitrum chains. This policy functions as a sealed-bid auction where the winner gains a time advantage.

Two new episodes of the Zero Knowledge Podcast have been released. The first episode covers Bitcoin L2's, BitVM, and SNARKado, while the second features Chiesa and Yogev discussing their latest book on cryptographic proofs.

Taiko announced milestones for Raiko, its multi-proof system, in a recent blog post. Additionally, Toghrul from Scroll shared insights on the path to multisig-less rollups.

Community and Contributions

The newsletter also encourages community involvement. Readers can explore open positions on Taiko's job board and contribute to Taiko on GitHub, earning a GitPOAP and recognition as a contributor.
