The Kobeissi Letter: Retail investors’ share of options trading just hit an all-time high of 18%
The Kobeissi Letter posted on social media that the proportion of retail investors in options trading has just reached a historic high of 18%. This proportion is even higher than during the meme coin craze of 2021.
At the same time, according to data from options settlement company Options Clearing Corp., the daily options trading volume this year has reached a record-breaking 47 million. This means that individual investors are now trading 8.5 million option contracts every day.
The rise of Gamestop, GME, and other memes is also one of the reasons for the recent surge in options trading volume. Retail risk appetite has reached a historic high.
