How Tezos Is Championing Gender Balance with World of Women

Gender imbalance in the web3 ecosystem has long been evident, with women severely underrepresented in the industry. This disparity has spurred change-driving initiatives across the industry, spearheaded by prominent figures and organizations.

Joining this effort is the female-led blockchain Tezos , which has partnered with the leading female-focused NFT community, World of Women, to promote gender balance in the digital space.

Tezos and World of Women (WoW) Join Forces

On Thursday, June 6, 2024, Tezos welcomed World of Women (WoW) into its ecosystem, marking a significant collaboration aimed at accelerating gender parity.

Central to this collaboration is the prioritization of economic opportunities for women in the industry, enabling the development of more on-chain features to provide support to female builders, creators, and mission advocates. 

World of Women will build on Etherlink, an EVM-compatible, non-custodial Layer 2 blockchain powered by Tezos Smart Rollups technology, providing low-cost, reliable, and seamless transactions.

Tezos co-founder Kathleen Breitman highlighted the significance of the partnership, stating,  WoW building on Tezos offers hope for a future where women may be represented equally in a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable digital landscape.”

Additionally, WoW and Tezos will promote female industry participants access to funding and support to create visions, curbing the existing imbalance in the success rate of women in the industry compared to their male counterparts.

Gender Disparity in Web3 

Emphasizing the need to promote gender balance in the industry, WoW spotlighted the gap and limited opportunities available to women across the industry. According to a 2023 BCG report , while women make up 37% of cryptocurrency holders, they only represent 27% of the web3 workforce and a mere 13% of startup founding teams.

The gap is further widened in the funding disparity, with male-led startups receiving 4 times more investment,  highlighting the challenges women face in securing funding, recognition, and support as creators.

With Tezos, WoW aims to expand its reach and empower more women in the next era of the ecosystem. This will be facilitated by connecting and supporting women leaders, builders, and champions of the mission with blockchain-enabled infrastructure, driving opportunities for women seeking to shape the digital frontier.
