Vitalik: Superintelligent AI is Highly Risky and Should Not Be Rushed
PANews reported on May 21 that Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin shared his views on superintelligent AI and open-source models on X (Twitter). He believes:
- Superintelligent AI is highly risky and should not be hastily advanced. Efforts to push this technology forward should be resisted. He opposes the establishment of a $7 trillion server farm.
- A robust ecosystem of open-source models running on consumer-grade hardware is an effective countermeasure to prevent the high concentration of AI value and control over most human thoughts. These models pose less risk of monopoly compared to corporations and the military.
- Dividing AI into "small" and "large" categories and exempting small AI while regulating large AI is reasonable in principle. However, he is concerned that many current proposals will ultimately classify everything into the "large" category.
